This workshop is presented in art history format with slides featuring hundreds of images from the 18th, 19th, and early 20th century artists, photographers, and designers. Bring a notebook and pen, some tea and cookies, and join us for an afternoon of exploration of orientalist art, the belly dancer as a theme, and the artists who made these works. We will discuss the cultural milieux that produced these images and the culture that purchased and commissioned these works of art. Then we will discuss how this artwork functions as historic documents, how they are being collected today, and how we can use their intersectionality to form one line of traceable history.
